"Inner Haven" by HYLA Architects, which clinched the prestigious Design of the Year at the 2025 SIA Design Awards, is a masterclass in inward-facing architecture. Sited on a tight plot in Siglap, the house is designed around a central 6m x 4.3m courtyard sheltered by a timber pergola and glass roof. By "carving out" this rain-protected core, the architects eliminated the need for heavy internal walls, allowing natural light and cross-ventilation to flow seamlessly through the living spaces while maintaining absolute privacy from neighbors.
